Eight Super League clubs remained in the Challenge Cup after
a weekend which saw the cup holders, Wigan Warriors, eliminated from the
competition after a spirited fightback from Hull FC.
Into the hat went both Hull sides, Warrington, Catalans
Dragons, Salford Red Devils, Wakefield Trinity, St Helens and the Leigh
Leopards for a quarter final draw which would deliver some mouthwatering ties
for games to be played on the weekend of the 3rd to 6th
of April.
The draw was made by former Challenge Cup winners Adrian
Morley and John Wilkin and while the fans of several sides were left bemoaning
their luck of the draw, the neutral will be looking forward to the prospect of
some great matches in a fortnight’s time.
The draw in full was made as follows;
- Hull FC v. Hull KR
- Warrington Wolves v. St Helens
- Wakefield Trinity v. Leigh Leopards
- Catalans Dragons v. Salford Red Devils.
The games for live broadcast will be determined over the
next few days, with the first two ties the most likely to make it onto the TV
screens.
Hull FC’s reward for knocking out Wigan was a home game
against arch-rivals Hull KR in what promises to be a humdinger of a game. St
Helens are doing it the hard way after a late scare against the Rhinos and they
will make the short trip to the Halliwell-Jones to face a Warrington side who
themselves made hard work of progress past the Widnes Vikings.
Salford Red Devils have the long trip to the South of France
to face the Catalans Dragons and with all of their recent upheaval they will be
the underdogs to make the semi-finals. The final game of the quarters is
another intriguing one as 2023 trophy winners Leigh Leopards make the visit to
Wakefield to face a resurgent Trinity under the stewardship of Daryl Powell.
It will be a weekend of top rugby league to look forward to
on the weekend of the 3rd to 6th of April.
