I wonder what he could have achieved with a more glamorous club. I think he also did well in various versions of Superstars.

In terms of big names they certainly had plenty (David Watkins and Mike Coulson come to mind) but apart from a Challenge Cup Final in 1969 (against Castleford. I lived near Pontefract at the time. The town was divided with the Featherstone half wanting Salford to win) they were more style than substance and never quite reached the heights. A case of the whole being less than the sum of the parts.
