Did anyone here realise he was born in Warrington?

I just heard that on BBC North West whilst doing family tree stuff on the laptop and a quick search suggests he was born in South Manchester, not Warrington.

Half expecting him to jump out of the wardrobe with his birth certificate in hand.

Haha! I saw it on Guardian obit, it said he was born in Warrington, 'because his mum happened to be there at that time'

I was always told he was born in Salford as his dad was a seaman and was docked at Manchester (Salford) docks. He was registered in South Manchester register office, but that covered a very large area at that time , including Eccles parish, which includes Hope hospital.

He was born in Warrington.
He was born on Sankey Green, near Bank Park, so being born so close to the Town Hall, I guess, that would make him even more Warringtonian than many of us!
Wrongly reported he was from Manchester.

He was a world famous actor so he was often asked where he came from, as no one knew where Warrington was he would say Manchester. I heard him tell that story on a radio interview years ago.
