It was a full Sunday of Championship fixtures with the pick of the round being the visit of newly relegated London Broncos to Leigh Centurions, the former keen to get their season started and the latter looking to maintain their 100% record.

Elsewhere, the Bulls visited Featherstone, the Eagles travelled to Cumbria to take on Whitehaven, and Halifax were the visitors at Batley Bulldogs.

As the final hooters sounded around the league it would be the Centurions out on their own at the top of the pile and Doncaster and Whitehaven down the bottom, both clubs so far without a point.

Just over four and a half thousand were at the Leigh Sports Village to see a 25-12 win for the home side thanks to first half tries from Heggarty, Kay, Armstrong and Brierley. Dollapi managed one back for the Broncos but it was a commanding 20-6 half time lead. Both sides scored a solitary second half try, Leigh through Armstrong and the Broncos through Williams, and with a Naiqama conversion against a last minute Ridyard drop goal. The visitors will take some heart from having out-scored their hosts in the second period.

The Bulls had a field day at Featherstone racking up an 18-0 lead thanks to tries from Gaskell, Purtell, and Ulugia. Second half tries through O'Brien, Baile, Gaskell and Ulugia, with six conversions by Shaw saw a solitary response from Lockwood to seal a 40-4 win in front of the largest crowd of the Championship afternoon as 6,346 made it through the turnstiles.

Batley hosted a low scoring affair where all the points were scored in a three minute spell at the end of the first half. Batley took the lead through a Leatherbarrow penalty before Place went over for Halifax and saw his try converted by Tyler for a 6-2 away win.

Workington Town opened their 2015 account with a big 33-6 win over Doncaster. Forrester and Manfredi had given the home side an 8-0 lead before Dunn, converted by Scott, got the visitors back within two at the interval. But the second half was all Workington as Phillips, Whiteley, Olstrum and Forber all scored converted tries, unanswered by the opposition. A last minute Doran drop goal was the icing on the Cumbrians cake.

Sheffield Eagles registered their second win of the season away at Whitehaven by 20-6 thanks to tries from Walker, Turner (2), Lauulu-Togagae, and Yere, the only response being a converted try from Craven.

The final game of the afternoon saw Hunslet get their first points of the season with an 18-6 win against Dewsbury. Tries from Flanagan and Finigan, along with five two pointers from Brown saw only a Hepworth try, and Hemingway conversion in response.

Leigh now lead Bradford, Sheffield, Batley, Halifax and Featherstone by two league points and early indications are that this will be a very hard fought competition for the top four spots.
